16 - 17TH C. THAI/LAO  BUDDHA

Just acquired through an associate in Thailand, this wonderful buddha has features of both Thai and Lao buddhas.  I was taken by both the incredibly strong face, and the wonderful cutout scrolled base, as well as the deep, rich patina.  It stands 14 inches high.  This is a tough one to date because of the mixed features, but after going through the books, I am dating it as 16-17th c.- but with less certainty than usual.  Regardless, it is a powerful, soulful piece, and a welcome addition to any collection.
