LARGE 19th CENTURY QING SCROLL PAINTING - MONK BY A WATERFALL

As the Chinese have become wealthier and wealthier, their art market has exploded.  Most of the interest is the the modern twentieth century painters, but there is also an interest in acquiring older traditional paintings as well.  This landscape done in brush, pen and ink, dates to the nineteenth century.  It has interesting elements of the traditional style but at the same uses an exuberant ink blot technique.  Painting Dimensions 52 ½”x 22 ½”, Scroll is 76” high and 28” wide.  Small thumbnail size V-shaped tear in the center, which can be backed (no paper is missing).  This painting by an unknown artist using an ink blot technique, succeeds admirably in combining the restraint of classical Chinese painting with the exuberance of abstract expressionism. The Chinese art market has exploded in the last several years, as the newly minted Chinese wealthy are buying their heritage object back.  $1500
