17TH-18TH C. CHIANG SAEN BUDDHA This piece has an unusually nice patina, both red and green, and a very serene archetypal Thai face. It came back to me, as pieces sometimes do, and now another person will have the pleasure of owning it. It is very heavily cast. It stands 8 3/4 inches high, 7 inches wide. Part of the base has been removed - this happens when there is a shortage of bronze; more commonly in Laos, but also in Thailand. The buddha will not be touched, but the sculptor will remove the base and re-melt it for other statues. In this case, I do not think it detracts from the appearance at all. If the buyer would like it, I have a 1" matte black block which can be placed underneath it.
