MASSIVE 18TH C. BURMESE PAGAN BUDDHA

This buddha is so heavy I can barely lift it.  It is made in two pieces, the buddha and the lotus base (thankfully).  The buddha is solid cast, something that never happens in the modern era for a large piece.  It was obtained in northern Thailand, but is Burmese.  The kingdom of Pagan was founded in the ninth century and was sacked by the Mongols in the thirteenth century.  However, this style of buddha has been avidly emulated ever since.  The cuprite on this statue dates it to at least the eighteenth century.  It stands 19 inches tall with a large lotus base.  This is a commanding buddha that will dominate any room it is in.
