MING (OR QING) DYNASTY CARVED STONE HORSE It is impossible to date a piece like this totally accurately. It obviously was carved with great skill, and is of an archaic style that looks Ming, but emulations in Chinese art are so common, it could have been done later. Ultimately, though, it speaks for itself. The sense of the power and spirit of the animal comes through wonderfully. I am not sure of the stone; but it is relatively soft. It is substantial - 12" from fetlock to tail, and 9" high. Powerful, with great chi. $1100 |
