COLOSSAL 16TH - 17TH C. LAOTIAN BUDDHA

Every trip to Asia, it seems that we find one object that is truly exceptional and must be bought.  This buddha fulfilled that function on our August trip.  I do not recall ever seeing a Laotian buddha of such age, size, and condition.  I love Laotian buddhas for their individuality as well as powerful and expressive folk style.  This example stands 25 1/2 inches tall, and is so heavy I can barely lift it.  The patina is red, brown and green, with abundant cuprite in the metal.  There is an old casting crack in the base;  otherwise the condition is exemplary.  This is a museum or high level collector's piece.
