19TH - 20TH CENTURY JAPANESE BUDDHA The story that comes along with this buddha is that a master carver was producing it for a portable altar, but he died and it was never finished. Quite plausible, since it would have had the hands put on and then been gilded. But a good story regardless. It is made out of a very lightweight wood, maybe basswood. Detail, especially the face is beautifully done. 7-1/2 inches with the stand, which is removable. A lovely little buddha for a small space. $125
