EARLY 20TH C. YAO SHAMAN'S TALISMAN

The Yao (Mien) are one of the people of Southeast Asia that originated in Southern China, and migrated first to Laos, and then to Thailand.  They practice a religion that combines spirits with Taoistic traditions.  This cloth was apparently used in some shamanistic ritual.  It measures 19" x 16" and is made of quite old cotton.  Picture has been lightened somewhat to show detail;  the cloth is more browned and aged-appearing.  Wonderful for framing, and a true tribal antique.
