19TH C. RATTANAKOSIN BUDDHA This is a classic elaborate Rattanakosin style sitting buddha, but with a nicer face and proportions than most that you encounter. When the capital of Thailand moved to Bangkok in 1782, this highly detailed style became predominant, although it had begun to emerge in the late Ayutthaya period. Very fine floral detailing with gilding and red lacquer. It stands a substantial 16.5 inches tall, large enough for an altar or nice display, but smaller than the large temple sized one. Condition is fine, with just wear to the gilding. Extremely heavily cast. A classic and substantial buddha.
