18TH - 19TH C. SANDALWOOD AYUTTHAYA  BUDDHA

This is a classic Ayutthaya standing buddha; but better than most.  This one was originally done in wood and lacquer, but most of the lacquer has disappeared over the years, leaving warmly patinated wood, which looks far nicer.  The face is very elegantly carved and benign, and the arms and hands are similarly graceful.  There is a tiny loss to the top of the finial, otherwise the piece is intact. It stands 15 inches tall.  $1850
