15TH - 16TH C. SUKHOTHAI BUDDHA

This buddha is museum quality.  In fact, it is the highest quality piece bought on our last several trips.  As most people familiar to this site know, Sukhothai buddhas are considered the height of Thai art.  The style is therefore widely copied and many, many reproductions and fakes exist.  You rarely encounter a real one except in museums or collections, since collectors simply do not sell them.  This one has everything - beautiful graceful slim form, exquisite benign face, nice dark brown smooth patina with scattered cuprite, and no significant damage or problems.  He stands 11.5 inches high, which makes the detailing, especially of the face, even more notable.  I seem to run into a legitimate period Sukhothai buddha about every three years.
