18TH - 19TH C. GREENSTONE SUKOTHAI BUDDHA HEAD This is a beautifully carved, graceful and enlightened appearing head. It was sculpted as a head, and not part of a statue. It originally had an extension that fit into some sort of fixture, possibly in a temple. I had this custom base made to display it to its maximum advantage. I do not know exactly what the name of this green stone is. You see occasional sculptures made of it, and it obviously is indigenous to Thailand. It it a semi-hard stone with a warm hue, and patinates with a red/brown color over time. 11 1/2 inches high, 14 inches with the stand. Condition is excellent. Lovely and wise.
